We’re thrilled that our microfiction zine, PARE, will be making it into reader’s hands by Christmas! The recent pandemic has transformed our world. Women and girls have found themselves pushed towards change and have embraced or fought metamorphosis. Thus, metamorphosis was chosen as the theme for the 2021 Web Flash Fiction Prize for Women Writers. Our theme inspired vivid, precise explorations. Fifty percent of the proceeds from PARE, our debut zine, will be donated to charities that address the issues of sexual assault and domestic violence. Readers and writers, when you pick up our zine from our staff or online, you’ll be making a difference.

Here’s a preview of some of the excellent microfiction included. SRP staff loved this piece and bet that you will, too.

Grandma’s purple baby was laid to rest after her funeral. It slept just off the gravel drive in an empty field of long grass, until nature reclaimed it with generations of bees. We were late to noticing how long this had gone on, hexagonal shapes remolded the vinyl, and the hum was like radio static. We never moved it but stared for the sake of memory. When the sun was high and the bees lively, their shadow formed a driver.
